- While students are learning from home, I will be offering Choir as a virtual extracurricular activity. There is a Google Classroom for Choir for 4th and 5th grade students. To enroll in the classroom they can find the code posted in their regular music Google Classrooms. Students will be able to view and listen to the choir music from home and submit videos so that we can all still sing together. If you have any questions, please send me an email!
Chorus is an extension of music class for 4th and 5th grade students providing them with an opportunity to sing in a group and to perform for family and friends. Chorus has several performances during the year including one around the winter holidays and a spring performance.
- While the COVID-19 pandemic is still greatly affecting our area and while students are learning from home, band will not be offered. I hope to resume band as soon as we are safely able to! Band students are welcome and encouraged to join the virtual choir if they so choose. Instructions for enrolling in the virtual choir are described above.
Band, or “Orffestra”, is an instrumental ensemble for interested 4th and 5th grade students. This group learns several songs and pieces of music on the Orff instruments and performs several times throughout the year, most notably at the Tree Lighting Ceremony in Rogersville around Christmas.
Both groups meet 2 mornings of the week for 20 minutes. The days will be posted in the music classroom.
Meet our Music Teacher
Katie Brabham- I am originally from New England, but moved south after graduating from college. I have a bachelors in Music Education from Eastern University in Philadelphia and a Master of Music in Music Education from Anderson University in South Carolina. I have been teaching music for 8 years and I love every minute! I use the Orff-Schulwerk approach in all of my teaching. This approach is focused on learning through discovery, poetry/speech, dance, play, and barred percussion instruments such as xylophones. When I’m not teaching, I love to hike, do yoga, kayak, and spend time with my husband, our little boy, and our 2 dogs and rabbit.
