CEP

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are pleased to announce that for the 2023-24 school year, HawkinsElementary School will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).  This option is available to select schools in Tennessee that participate in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

What does CEP mean for my student(s) who attend Hawkins ElementarySchool?  In a CEP school, all students receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch at no cost, regardless of family income. The first full breakfast or lunch meal your child receives will be at no charge. Second meals, a la carte items, and snack items may still be available for purchase. Students attending HawkinsElementary School will not be required to fill out an application for free or reduced priced meals to receive breakfast or lunch at no cost. If you have a child attending a non-CEP school, you may complete a free and reduced meal application for that student and list all household members, including the child attending a CEP school.

What if my child changes schools? Your child is eligible for free meals at Hawkins Elementary School where he/she is currently enrolled.  If he/she transfers to a non-CEP school during the 2023-24 school year, the parent/guardian would have to qualify based on income thresholds through the free and reduced meals application process to meet the criteria for eligibility. If he/she does not qualify, then the parent would be responsible for paying the full price for meals.

If you have any questions, please contact Hawkins Elementary School at 423-272-2632 or the Child Nutrition Department at 423-272-2128.

Best regards,

Mandy Kenner
