In honor of Aleita Gladson's memory and her dedication to the transportation of students, there will be a memorial bus procession on Friday, March 1st. Buses from many surrounding county and city school systems will meet at Cherokee High School at 10:00 AM. Once Buses are organized, the procession will proceed from Cherokee High School, through Rogersville, and travel on highway 11W to Volunteer High School. We encourage the community to stand along the route and pay tribute to this amazing individual.

On the morning of Monday, February 26, 2024, I can confirm that an auto-accident occurred involving Hawkins County students and a Hawkins County bus driver. I am glad to report that only two students were involved. They were both transported from the scene to receive medical attention and appear to have suffered only minor injuries.
But I am heartbroken to report Aleita Gladson has passed away. Aleita was a longtime and valued Hawkins County Schools team member, as a bus driver, as a secretary, and as assistant director within our Transportation Department. Our prayers go out to her family, and we would ask that all those within our Hawkins County community keep Aleita’s family in your prayers as well.
We pray too for the other driver involved in this accident.
I will take a moment here as well to provide our heartfelt thanks to the many first responders who rushed to the accident scene to care for all those involved. At this time though, out of respect for all of the people and families affected by this tragic accident, neither I nor Hawkins County Schools will have any further comment.
